Short Bio

Markus Schubert is a creative technologist and game designer working at the intersection of technology and the performing arts. He is the founder and managing director of Nebelflucht GmbH, initiator of the interactive platform toto.io, and a member of the Berlin-based hackerspace »Raumfahrtagentur«.

Markus holds a degree in computer science and has over two decades of experience as a software developer and architect. His artistic focus lies in designing interactive performances, participatory formats, and immersive installations. He collaborates with theatre makers, artists, and interdisciplinary teams to create playful, technology-driven experiences that invite audiences to engage actively.

Markus has contributed to productions at renowned state theatres, including the Staatstheater Augsburg (Kinesphere), Saarländisches Staatstheater (Game Over), Staatstheater Nürnberg (No Work And All Play), and Deutsche Oper Berlin (Beta). As part of the European innovation project ACuTe, he was also involved in the international production GO!CROSS at the Slovenian National Theatre in Nova Gorica. His work has been presented both nationally and internationally across Europe.

In 2025, Markus was nominated together with Samia Chancrin and Georg Werner for the theatre award DER FAUST in the category "Media" for their work on "Every Heart is Built Around a Memory" at the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt. In 2026, the same piece won the Weltenbauen Award of the DTHG in the category "Innovation", awarded to Markus together with Samia Chancrin, Sarah Methner, Georg Werner and the team of the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt.

In 2020, he was a fellow at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund. He regularly gives workshops and lectures at conferences and festivals, sharing insights on interactive systems, game mechanics, and digital tools in the arts. Since 2021, he has been teaching in the Department of Computer Science at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences.
